Garden History
The Hyatt Park Community Garden is located in Hyatt Park in the City of Hyattsville, MD. Until the late 2000s, this land was privately owned and many local folks knew it as the home of the Jack and Jill Day Nursery, which was housed in an older Victorian home on the west end of the property. This house has since been demolished.
In its earlier years, the owner operated a small vegetable farm on the property and sold the produce at the DC farmer’s market. The property was purchased by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, which allows the City to use the entire property for a community park. In the spring of 2011, the northeast corner of the park was designated as a community garden for Hyattsville residents.
